2008, The Year of the Rat!

Happy new year!

The Cheng Sisters are back in New York after a month in Asia, visiting Taipei, Shanghai and Tokyo. We’ll have more to report on our travels in this month’s features so check back in at the end of the month to read more!

On the theme of Asia, we’re just about to welcome the year of the rat (Chinese New Year is on February 7th, this year), so I thought I’d share an image (see above) to bode an auspicious beginning to a new year!

Oh, and we have a new section on the site: Listening! Roy, long-time contributor and newest member of the Cravings team, has been sharing is musical picks with us for some time. As his playlists have become such a hit with us, this issue inaugurates Listening, to satisfy the cravings of the ears. Here Roy shares his favorite tunes — some new, some not so new — that mostly veer outside of the mainstream. It is his hope, and ours, that some of these selections will allow you to experience music in a bold new way. Happy listening!

Also, we have a winner for the fourth annual Menu for Hope raffle: Amy Spielholtz. Congratulations! This year’s Menu for Hope raised $91,188 for the UN World Food Programme. Thank you, for those who participated, and helped to make it such a smashing success!
