Ramps from Paisley FarmMike Kokas/Paisley Farm

Ramp Foraging!

As you’ve probably noticed, both at the green markets and on restaurant menus across town, it’s ramp season! I love ramps not only because I relish their delicious pungent taste, a cross between garlic and scallion, but also because their appearance announces that it’s springtime!

Paisley Farm upstate in Tivoli, New York, has three ramp foraging excursions this month on May 9, 16, and 23. They’ll show you how to find and cook this scrumptious spring treat. Sounds like fun! It’s $85 per person (all inclusive) and you need to arrive at the farm by 10:30am. Click here for more details.

And if you can’t make it to Paisley Farm, you can still enjoy their produce through their Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which provides members with weekly shares of farm produce. Six months of weekly vegetable shares are $500, and there are pick-up sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn. Click here for details and to become a member.

Happy spring! Enjoy the ramps and the bounty of spring vegetables!
