Adding spices to cuisine is like adding colors to a painting: They provide depth and vibrance in aesthetics and flavor. Spices are also a gateway to learning about other cultures.
On December 8th, the American Museum of Natural History’s global cuisine series, Global Kitchen, will present “The Silk Road through Spices.” Cookbook author and owner of Nirmala’s Kitchen (a gourmet importer and distributor), Nirmala Narine, who has traveled extensively to collect spices, recipes, and stories, will discuss how chefs replicate these historic flavors in kitchens today.
Attendees will learn the traditional uses, tastes, and smells of spices, as well as how to incorporate various flavors into their own cooking.
