Of all places, I would not have expected The Modern to have the perfect iced matcha latte. This is my ideal summer drink — in place of regular Western iced tea — and is frequently served in Japanese cafés. The graininess and bitter taste of matcha — green tea powder made from finely ground green tea leaves — is softened by a milky froth, and having it served cold makes it go down even easier and faster. It’s slightly sweetened but not overly so, keeping balance and subtlety (unlike those too-sweet Frappuccinos). You can have it served on ice or not. Slurp, slurp. Yum, yum!
