I love sourcing local food products when I’m back in Taipei. Imagine my joy when I found Red On Tree jams. Taiwan is a tropical fruit heaven. Celia and I grew up with an abundance of seasonal fruits — like white guava — that I rarely see outside of Taiwan. This confiture really brings me back to my childhood. I love the big chunks of guava! ($320 N.T. ~ $9.50)

it’s a shame lots of good local western restaurants don’t emphasize more on local ingredients…taiwan has great produce but when you go to a good french restaurant…it’s always xyz from burgundy, abc from italy… anyway, great site, i’ll come visit more often! -steve

i agree, steve. there is a movement now to valorize local produce. the basement of eslite has a bunch of these products and i think it will catch on. i’ll keep writing!

my recent “contemporary cuisine in taipei” piece in happening celebrates the same idea.
