A wine made for me!

2005 Jermann Blau & Blau ($46): It’s the kind of red grapes I love (90% Blaufraenkisch and 10% Blauburgunder, a.k.a. Pinot Noir), a top Italian producer, low tannin, good acidity, elegance, and loads of fresh blackberry and blueberry. All of this plus 16 months in French oak results in perfect harmony and balance.

I first had it at Shang in New York with Chinese food, then brought some bottles back to Taipei for the holidays. I took it to Din Tai Fung to share with my family over steamed crab roe pork dumplings and cha chiang noodles. And we were the only table having wine with our food that night. I wish more people brought wines (and not big, heavily tannic reds) to home-style Chinese restaurants. It really hits the spot. Perfect wine pairing with the casual local cuisine. I can’t wait to do it again on my next trip!
