Austrian born Red R. Thalhammer, creator of Antidote Chocolate, makes exquisite chocolate bars in Long Island City, seamlessly combining unusual flavors to produce a unique sensual experience. She makes 10 different bars ranging from 100% raw cacao to 77% and 84% raw and roasted cacao. Each bar is named after a Greek goddess. The unique flavor combinations include mango and juniper, rose salt and lemon, almond and fennel, and coffee and cardamom. One of my favorites is the banana and cayenne — chocolate and banana always make a good pair, but it’s even better with a little heat. The Ultimate Antidote, the 10-bars mixed box, is our gift box of choice because you could give the whole box to a true chocolate lover or give the bars individually.
