I’ve been craving the uni, ikura and toro rice bowl at Izakaya Torae Torae in Honolulu, but that doesn’t do me much good since I am in New York. Cut to a conversation with fellow Hawaiian and Sea Grill chef Yuhi Fujinaga. When I mention this, he tells me he knows where I can satisfy my craving in the city and sends me to Mu Ramen. This led to me eating a whole bowl of the U&I (uni, ikura and spicy tuna); it was so good I was unwilling to share with my husband, so he had to get another one. In the meantime, we also had two other appetizers and two bowls of ramen. Long story short, I was overstuffed and overjoyed when I walked out of Mu Ramen. While I won’t make the same mistake next time of being such a glutton, chances are I will get the U&I over a bowl of ramen. Don’t get me wrong, the ramen at Mu is amazing, but for the summertime, the U&I is my constant craving. How very appropriate that I was teased on social media by the Mu team that they might have to rename the dish “Me, Myself and I”!
