Sushi Omakase

Celia Sin-Tien Cheng

Ushiwakamaru is a good option for everyday sushi. Chef Hideo Kuribara is always having a good time making sushi, drinking beer, and chatting with customers. With the sushi omakase, he’ll pick what’s in season and freshest. And — one of my favorite treats — he will deep-fry the heads of botan ebi tempura-style to serve after the botan ebi sushi. Delicious!

Within its neighborhood, Ushiwakamaru is probably the best reasonably-priced authentic sushi restaurant. It’s a great deal. You won’t get the Midtown- or Soto-level quality of fish and sushi rice, but you’ll have a great meal without going broke.
