The SoHo Italian deli Alidoro — formerly known as Melampo — is an adorable old school institution. The long lines during lunch hour are completely justified by the bountiful and delicious sandwiches that they prepare (all named after Italian greats like Fellini, Marco Polo, Galileo, etc.). I’m a purist sometimes and love the Matthew — prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, arugula and the house dressing on your choice of white, wheat, focaccia, semolina or sfilatino bread (the last three at additional cost). The ingredients are very fresh and taste especially vibrant. This is some of the best arugula I’ve ever had! The house sauce, a blend of oil and balsamic vinegar, is key to the subtle balance of each sandwich.
