Morning Glass Coffee

Omelette en Casuela

Celia Sin-Tien Cheng

Morning Glass opened last summer in Manoa and attracted an instant following as the only café on the island to serve Stumptown Coffee. With the choice of the Stumptown or local Hawaiian coffee of the day, you know you’ll be getting a good cup of joe. Morning Glass’s omelettes, served in cast iron pans, have the most perfect texture — slightly runny but completely light and fluffy, not like many of the denser and rubbery omelettes that have turned me off of brunch. The local eggs, shimeji mushrooms, Gruyère and caramelized onions are a fresh, delicately flavorful combination. This dish could have been overly heavy and greasy, but Morning Glass gets it just right with impeccable attention to detail. It’s a shame that the omelettes are only served at breakfast on weekends, but on weekdays the breakfast sandwich, breakfast burritos, frittatas, savory tarts and other house-made pastries will pair just as well with a cup of coffee.
