Leonard’s Bakery is Hawaii’s pride and joy when it comes to malasadas, the Portuguese fried dough that has become a staple in Hawaiian cuisine (along with Portuguese sausage). You can choose the standard malasadas coated in sugar, cinnamon sugar or li hing mui (savory dried plum powder), or the malasada puffs filled with custard, dobash (chocolate), haupia (coconut) or the flavor of the month. When in Hawaii, try all things haupia and li hing mui — just not not together. The malasadas are made to order, always piping hot and packaged in Leonard’s signature pink bag or box.
