Orhan Yegen is the godfather of Turkish cuisine in New York City – involved with countless Turkish restaurants in Manhattan – so when he’s in the kitchen, you can be assured that you are having downright good Turkish grub. At his latest casual eatery, Bi Lokma, it’s all about home-style comfort food. The lamb and bean is a perfect example — pieces of lamb shoulder are stewed in a tomato-based sauce until the meat is so tender it falls off the bone and melts in your mouth. The kidney beans are a good complement, and the rice is so soft and fluffy I was surprised to learn that it’s Uncle’s Ben’s. It’s so good that one plate almost isn’t enough.
