Milton Glaser is the champion graphic designer of our time because he is a leader in critical thinking. Now in his eighties, Glaser is as sharp as ever, and he shares his remarkable talent and creative process in his latest book, “In Search of the Miraculous.” The nuanced title alone reflects the clarity in his thought and design process: it’s not “In Search of Miracles” but “In Search of the Miraculous.” The book is based on the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA) 2010 exhibit “In Search of the Miraculous or One Thing Leads to Another.” Both the exhibit and book illustrate how design concepts evolve and cohere. The book highlights the recurrence of themes among different works and spans diverse media. And it includes a short, wonderfully illuminating forward by Ralph Caplan.
