After moving to New York, I found myself referring to Mediterranean cuisines — not just Asian cuisines — as comfort food. I’m particularly addicted to hummus. A restaurant named Hummus Place, better have amazing hummus. While Hummus Place is more of a fast food joint than a restaurant, their hummus is indeed delicious. I like to order the mushroom hummus, sautéed mushrooms surrounded by a circle of hummus. The woodsy flavor of the mushrooms complements the lighter taste of mashed chickpeas blended with tahini, olive oil, lemon juice, salt and garlic. When I need to take a break from all the heavy foods I love to consume, I find myself searching for the refreshing comforts of Hummus Place.
