I visit Tokyo about once a year, and I always enjoy the excellent service at Tokyo hotels, even when the rooms aren’t that big. On this last visit, Cyn and I stayed at the Ritz-Carlton, and it was our best experience yet. Located in Roppongi, on the top nine floors of Midtown, the tallest building in Tokyo (which houses myriad offices as well a shopping mall), the hotel is connected to three subway lines. Convenient subway access makes it easy to get around the wide-spread metropolis of Tokyo Prefecture, but Midtown is like a small town in itself, so one day we opted to stay close and explore the area. The hotel has three restaurants, but Midtown offers many more dining options, including the Tokyo branch of Union Square Café, Toraya tea salon, Jean-Paul Hévin chocolatier, Dean and Deluca, and plenty of local fare. There’s even a supermarket. And for a dose of culture, there are several museums and design centers on the grounds, including 21_21 Design Sight, Suntory Museum of Art, Tokyo Midtown Design Hub, and Fujifilm Square. Service at the hotel was excellent and warm — the second part I hadn’t anticipated. The rooms are extremely spacious (especially for Japanese standards) and the panoramic views spectacular, with some facing nearby Tokyo Tower. The Ritz-Carlton Tokyo takes pride in hospitality, and made sure we felt relaxed and pampered during our stay. Unforgettable experiences like these establish a connection between the hotel and satisfied customers, who will return time and time again.
