The gnocchi at Sorella is deliciously pleasing to both meat lovers and vegetarians alike. Delicate little homemade pillows of gnocchi are bathed in a creamy sauce of Castelrosso cheese along with pieces of pear cooked in brown butter. The pear pieces are similar in size to the gnocchi so they go incognito under the sauce; the sweetness of cooked and caramelized fruit in this mix of rich and slightly pungent Castelrosso cream makes for a delightful surprise. A sprinkle of cut chives not only brightens up the dish with a splash of green, but also adds an herbaceous note to the rich saucy gnocchi. I will usually order a couple of these dishes to share with the table so each person gets a little happy teaser before moving on to an entrĂ©e — perhaps another plate of gnocchi?
