The “Special”

All the regulars at La Superior know the garlic shrimp taco ($3.50) is really a staple rather than a “special” on the menu. You won’t find it on the printed menu but if you ask for the daily specials, you’re sure to hear about the garlic shrimp. It has become the ongoing joke (in the best way)!

It took me several tries to get hooked on them, but now that I’m hooked, sometimes I’ll have a garlic shrimp taco-only meal. It’s the butter and garlic — and a bit of kick from the guajillo chilies — that make it hard to resist. The super-tender sautéed shrimp remind me of the Shanghainese lake shrimp dish I grew up on. Oh so buttery-spicy-tender!
