The Baja Style fish tacos at Calexico consist of El Barrio beer-battered fresh cod with spicy slaw and mango slices (that I mistook for Cheddar at first sight), garnished with radish slices and doused with their famous chipotle “crack” sauce, all served on a warm corn tortilla. El Barrio is a special brown ale that Six Point makes exclusively for Calexico. The deep-fried texture of the beer batter is so light and crisp, it’s almost tempura-style. And the mango counters the fried flavors with a burst of fruit freshness and sweetness. It’s a very satisfying experience, especially paired with one of Calexico’s cocktails.
