Beast

Dinner

Celia Sin-Tien Cheng

Beast offers a six-course dinner menu four nights a week. It’s a unique experience: with only two seatings a night, the entire restaurant eats together communally — a fun way to meet new people. The two starters blew me away. First, the chilled corn and lobster bisque with chive oil and lobster whipped cream; second, the charcuterie plate with bite-sized treats of foie-gras bon-bon topped with Sauternes gelée, chicken liver mousse, leaf lard cracker, duck rillettes en croute, steak tartare with quail egg toast, and a piece of tête de cochon. Each one of these meat dishes are rich flavor bombs — but, bite-sized, you get to taste the best of it all in a manageable dose. I enjoyed the entire experience — of being part of the community that evening, and each delicate dish. And I couldn’t believe that the prix-fixe was only $68. That would never happen in New York.
