Japanese curry is low-end comfort food that I sometimes crave. It’s denser than Indian curries, and it tends to be much milder. Curry-Ya, the little fast-food curry joint in the East Village, offers the basic variety of curries from vegetable, chicken to pork cutlet. I like the chicken curry because it’s served with pan-fried thigh meat — what can I say, I’m a dark meat girl — and potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and bell peppers. You have the choice of mild/hot/very hot. When you need a little curry comfort, Curry-Ya hits the spot.
