Why do chicken and waffles seem so perfect together? Perhaps it’s the magic of syrup… The sweet-and-savory pairing is Sweet Chick’s signature dish, served all day. The chicken is brined for 24 hours in spices, herbs and a little sweet tea, then dredged in flour, dipped in buttermilk and fried. Unless you request otherwise, you’ll get one piece each of dark and white meat. Three delicious homemade butters accompany the waffles; the flavors change, but on the day I visited, I sampled herb, raspberry and honey lemon. At dinnertime, Sweet Chick offers three varieties of waffle: classic, bacon and Cheddar, or rosemary and mushroom. I’m a classic kind of girl. I love slathering my waffles with butter and syrup and my chicken with hot sauce and honey. On our recent visit, Cynthia ordered the daily special cocktail, a margarita made with Mike’s Hot Honey. The heat from the cocktail carried over — no need to add hot sauce or honey to the chicken. A dynamite pairing.
