A friend recently told me, “A BLT is just one of those things that you can make best in your own kitchen.” I agree, and I make a mean BLT (always with avocado, what I call a BLAT). But the one place I can’t beat is Lenny’s. I was originally introduced to this deli on the UWS, but Lenny’s has since expanded to a total of six locations covering the range of Manhattan neighborhoods. I order the BLT with avocado on a toasted poppy seed bagel with extra mayo. They use shredded lettuce, crispy bacon and a good amount of avocado. I think the key is the proportion of ingredients. It’s just right and oh-so-satisfying.
