Santa Fe is known for its vibrant art scene and Canyon Road is where many go to browse and collect. There are over 100 galleries on Canyon Road, with works ranging from contemporary to folk. Whether you are interested in paintings, pottery, furniture or jewelry, there’s something for you. Gallery hopping on Canyon Road can open your eyes to eclectic inspiration, and it’s also a great place to pick up gifts or souvenirs. Robert Nichols Gallery specifically showcases Native American pottery, and I found the contemporary collection of emerging artists such as Alan E. Lasiloo fascinating. His ceramic pieces are beautifully fluid, as are his signature designs that were originally considered mistakes — he’s transformed a common firing mistake to enhance the streaking in his pieces, which I find visually engaging.
