Il Buco Alimentari & Vineria

Scialatielli, Spicy Tomato, Octopus

Celia Sin-Tien Cheng

Dining at Il Buco Alimentari and Vineria is like a retreat, especially on a leisurely afternoon with sun streaming in through the skylight. The scialatielli with spicy tomato and octopus is only on the lunch menu this month, and it is simply a delight. The pasta is house-made from the same dough that the restaurant uses to make its piadini — the much loved flatbreads vaguely reminiscent of flour tortillas. Unlike traditional scialatielli that is more tagliatelle-like, Il Buco Alimentari’s version is flat, wide and ribbon-like, a wonderful texture that pairs well with the spicy sauce of chili, tomato, white wine and anchovy. The octopus is braised and roasted separately, then added to the spicy tomato sauce. You’ll enjoy a contrast of textures from the smoothness of the pasta to the springiness of the octopus. There’s nothing quite like the comfort and complete satisfaction that a dish of pasta can bring.
